Description

Why sacrifice your vintage style for practicality when you can have both with a great pair of common sense oxfords? A good, solid oxford is a real asset to any vintage fashion enthusiast. Our Claire 1940s Oxfords meet all the requirements of a sensible shoe while also being stylish and unique.

Claire 1940s Oxfords are direct reproductions of an original CC41 compliant "Academy Girl" brand shoe. They meet all the requirements for most military unit dress shoes and are similar in design and decoration to original styles sold as military dress shoes by historic brands such as Red Cross and Lotus.

Claires are constructed of a black calf leather upper, lined in brown pigskin leather, with leather soling and a 1.6 in / 4 cm stacked-look heel, just like the original.

The most comfortable shoes I own

I love this shoes! I don't wear a lot of shoes with a heel but those are the most comfortable pair I own. The first time I wore them, I went on a walk about 3 to 5 miles, and there was no blister or sore spots anywhere. I am impressed. Also, you don't even need to be careful with your balance. Normally I'm a bit wobbly in heels but not with them

Absolutely perfect

These shoes are wonderful !!!
I've wear these for the second time today, more than 11 hours straigt. I've worked and I got out with these. I'm a tour guide so I walk a lot and they are very, very, confortable. I even did a weaving demo with an antique loom with it and I had no problems whatsoever.
This kind of heels are perfect to walk in a city. I'm feeling stunning with these and vintage outfits (like 40'/50').
I advise to ask a shoemaker to add an extra non slippery sole to have them for a longer time as they have only smooth leather soles.
The investment is worth it and I'm looking forward to buy my next pair.
Thanks to all the American Duchess' team.

Stylish, good quality but runs slightly small for me

I always wear size 6.5M (or B) shoes, no matter what the brand is . Based on the prior reviews, I also order 6.5. The shoes came, they look to be of great quality, but, the toe area feels a bit tight for me. I really really wish they fit me like a glove, but regrettably, I have to return them.

The Claire’s – comfort, charm and nostalgia

Overall: I love my brown Claire’s. They may not exactly be a high-fashion on-trend style atm, but they are charming and characterful – and they’re the shoes that our grandmothers wore, so how could we not love wearing them!?
Details: The dark-brown stacked heel feels stable and contrasts nicely with the mid-brown leather upper, which has a warm reddish tinge (that is closer in color to how they look in the YouTube video, than in the photos). The brown shows up the brogue pin-prick details nicely. They also look unexpectedly cool with jeans.
Sizing and Comfort: I got size 9 (I’m a true 9B) and found them accurate to size, but these have more width overall and room across the toe area than the Bernadette’s or Lucille’s – so no need to size-up. Wearable out of the box, they are practical and comfy to walk in, just as you would expect of a style from the era they were inspired by. Plus, they’re well made.
Customer Service/Delivery: Very fast from order to delivery (to Australia, via DHL) 3.5 working days.
Conclusion: They make me feel both nostalgic and cheerful 😊 5 stars! They’re probably the shoes I would grab if I could only take one pair of shoes in an emergency, (unless it was going to involve running, in which case I’d probably chose runners instead) 😉 However – fair warning: these are not stealth shoes, as the heel is unusually loud on hard surfaces, I think they would benefit from rubber stoppers rather than standard plastic.
